Senior InformationClass of 2025 Parents/Guardians: Senior year is exciting, but it can also be stressful. As the high school counselor, I am here to support the transition to life after high school. Please contact me with questions about anything pertinent to your child's senior year and post-secondary plans. I will email senior announcements every 2-3 weeks starting in September. These will provide relevant information and update you and the students about important events or deadlines. I will also assist students with scheduling, transcripts, college searches, the college application process, financial aid, scholarships, and career exploration. If students are entering the workforce, I can help them get ready, whether it’s guiding them through job searches, finding training, editing resumes, or practicing for an interview. This year, most seniors are enrolled in Career Planning; this course will provide many valuable lessons and opportunities to prepare them for their future. For college applications, deadlines vary, but we encourage students to submit applications as early as possible. If your child is applying to college, they will likely need two to three letters of recommendation. I will write the school counselor letter highlighting your child’s high school accomplishments. Beforehand, I will email a “Parent/Guardian Praise Sheet.” This sheet allows you to share your child's strengths so that I can write a more in-depth letter. For teacher recommendations, students should ask teachers early enough so that they have ample time to write the letter. There are many college and career prep websites; however, two beneficial sites provide extensive knowledge. I encourage you to visit https://www.graniteedvance.org for New Hampshire-based guidance about college applications and the financial aid process. Another quality site is https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/. I will send more useful sites and information via the senior announcements. Lastly, if your child needs a transcript sent to a school, they should send me the request at [email protected]. If your child applies to a college through the Common Application, transcripts are submitted through that site, and I will automatically take care of it. I look forward to working with you and the students. Sincerely, Casey Dunn High School Counselor [email protected] (603) 838-6672 |

AP at LRS
In 2023-2024, Lisbon Regional School added five Advanced Placement courses: AP United States History, AP United States Government and Politics, AP Statistics, AP Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. This year, we are also offering AP English Language and Composition.
AP courses are another valuable option in our substantial college prep lineup, which also includes dual-credit courses through the Community College System of New Hampshire and Southern New Hampshire University. Some of our courses (Statistics, Precalculus, and Calculus) are both dual-credit and AP. Other dual-credit courses offered this year include Survey of British Literature 10, College Composition 11, American Literature 12, Creative Writing, Environmental Science, and Anatomy & Physiology.
LRS added College Board’s AP courses and exams for several purposes: promoting academic rigor; improving the school’s ratings; and enhancing student benefits and college readiness.
According to College Board, AP classes and exams can help students in four areas:
1. Build skills and confidence while exploring subjects of interest and developing problem-solving skills.
2. Standing out to selective colleges and universities, 85% of which say AP looks favorable for admission.
3. Succeeding in college due to AP credits - 75% of AP students enrolled in four-year colleges start school with AP credits.
4. Saving time, effort, and money in college - AP students are likelier to complete their degrees on time.
Princeton Review and the National Society of High School Scholars also highlight the benefits of taking AP courses in high school.
Exam Scores and College Credits
Students must pass the corresponding AP exam to earn college credit for a course. Scores are on a 5-point scale, with College Board considering a 3 or higher as a passing score. Many U.S. colleges give credit and/or let you skip their course if you earn a 3. Some more competitive colleges require a higher score. For example, Dartmouth accepts scores of 4 and 5. Check with your colleges of interest for their requirements. You do not have to take the AP course to take the AP exam, but the course is intended to prepare you for the test.
For more information about AP scores, College Board’s page is helpful. Click here to learn about AP courses and exams.
