HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR INTRODUCTION
Dear LRS Students/Guardians,
After completing my internship at Lisbon last year, I am proud to be the new high school counselor. This is a fantastic school with a dedicated staff and excellent students. I am excited to be a part of this community and ready to fulfill my role in assisting students as they work toward their future.
To introduce myself, I live in Bath with my wife, Kate, and two daughters, Ivy (6) and Caroline (4). I grew up in central Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, intending to be a sports reporter. I got sidetracked by a passion for mountains and spent much of the next decade living in Montana and exploring the West. I worked as a trail crew leader and a wildland firefighter. After becoming parents, my wife and I moved to NH to be closer to her family. I then decided to pursue a career in school counseling and attended graduate school at Plymouth State University, quickly realizing this was an excellent career choice.
As Lisbon’s high school counselor, I am committed to delivering a comprehensive program that impacts all students, producing positive results in students' achievement and well-being. I plan to foster a positive school climate that encourages growth. My counseling approach will be solution-focused, using students’ strengths to help them overcome challenges and reach goals. Overall, I intend to be a kind, trusted resource for students, staff, and families.
Lastly, I am grateful to have this opportunity, and I would especially like to thank former school counselor Mary Coleman for mentoring me. I hope to carry on her legacy.
Sincerely,
Casey Dunn

Fall 2023 Senior Information
,
Senior Parents/Guardians:
Senior year is an exciting time, but it also can be tricky to navigate. As the high school counselor, I am here to help. Please contact me with any questions about the college application process, graduation requirements, financial aid, or anything pertinent to your child's senior year. If I don’t know the answer, I will help you find it. Additionally, I will email senior announcements every other week starting in September. These will provide relevant information and update you and the students about important events or deadlines.
I will also assist students with scheduling, transcripts, grade-related issues related to PowerSchool, the college application process, scholarships, career exploration, and meeting with students for counseling purposes. If students are entering the workforce, I am happy to help them prepare for that transition, whether it’s searching for jobs, finding training, writing resumes, or practicing for an interview.
For college applications, deadlines vary from school to school. We encourage students to submit applications as early as possible. One of the critical pieces to this process is knowing all deadlines. Having your applications completed 2-4 weeks before the deadline is generally a good idea. If your child is applying to a two or four-year college, they will likely need two to three letters of recommendation. I will write the school counselor letter highlighting your child’s high school accomplishments. Beforehand, I will email a “Parent/Guardian Brag Sheet”; it is also attached in a link below. This sheet is a way for you to highlight your child's strengths so that the school can include an honest, in-depth letter with your child’s college applications. Please send completed questionnaires to cadunn@lisbon.k12.nh.us. If your child is asking a teacher for a letter of recommendation, please have them ask in advance and give the teacher ample time to write the letter.
There are many college application websites; however, two beneficial sites provide extensive information. I encourage you to visit https://www.nhheaf.org/ for more guidance on the college application process. This site is designed for New Hampshire students, parents, and schools. They offer many free services and will host our upcoming Financial Aid night. For financial aid information, please visit https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. I attached an informational sheet about the FAFSA below to help you avoid scams and use the real site. The FAFSA form is free, but some companies charge money. Lastly, if your child needs a transcript sent to a school, they should send me the request at cadunn@lisbon.k12.nh.us. When your child applies to a college, this request is often sent through the Common Application or SENDedu websites.
I look forward to working with you and the students. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Casey Dunn
